LAPADA appoints Rebecca Hossack as Director

PRESS RELEASE - 26 MAY 2005

LAPADA APPOINTS REBECCA HOSSACK AS DIRECTOR - First Specialist in Contemporary Art to join the LAPADA Board

LAPADA is delighted to announce the appointment of Rebecca Hossack of the Rebecca Hossack Gallery (RHG) to the Board of Directors.

Rebecca Hossack was born in Melbourne, Australia. She has degrees in Law from Melbourne University and in History of Art from The Australian National University, Canberra. She came to London in 1981 to read for the Bar, but instead followed her passion for Art. After taking a Diploma course at Christie's and winning a studentship to the Peggy Guggenheim Gallery in Venice, she began working in the art world and in 1985 organised the biggest ever artists' open studio event in Wapping, for which she won a Business Sponsorship of the Arts award.

Rebecca opened her first gallery in Windmill Street 1988, followed in 1992 with the opening of the Sculpture Garden in St James's, Piccadilly, and in 2000 she opened her Charlotte Street Gallery. RHG was the first gallery in Europe to show Australian Aboriginal art and Rebecca's commitment to contemporary non-western art movements has led to groundbreaking shows. RHG also shows work by a rich variety of British, American and 'European Australian' artists and Rebecca works to break down the conventional boundaries between the Fine and Decorative Arts with exhibitions by contemporary potters and jewellers. Rebecca was Cultural Attaché at the Australian High Commission in London from 1994 to 1998.

Sarah Percy-Davis, Chief Executive of LAPADA, on welcoming Rebecca to the Board said: "With her distinctive flair and knowledge of the contemporary art market Rebecca Hossack will bring a welcome new area of expertise to the LAPADA Board. As we move further into the 21st century, we plan to recruit more dealers in 20th century and contemporary art as members of the Association and Rebecca's energy and enthusiasm will be invaluable in this aim."
