HENRY JOHN YEEND KING RBA VPRI ROI RI
1855- 1924 Signed
Oil on canvas 24 x 30 inches
Henry John Yeend King was a London painter. He specialized in landscapes and rustic genre scenes. He spent three years working in a glassworks before studying under William Bromley in London and also with Bonnat and Cormon in Paris.
He was a typical late Victorian painter of rustic genre scenes but his robust plain air technique and use of bold colours reflect his Paris training.
Yeend King exhibited many works at the Royal Academy 1874 – 1924, the Royal Society of British Artists, the New Watercolour Society and the Grosvenor Gallery. He was elected RBA in 1879 and RI in 1886 later becoming its Vice President.
His work can be found in the following Museums: Tate Gallery,
The Walker Art Gallery; Reading; Rochdale and Sheffield.
