He then went on to become Head of Painting at Ulster College of Art, Belfast, between 1953 and 1960. From 1960 to 1970 he worked in the Extra-Mural Department of Queens’ University Belfast and between 1978 and 1980 lectured at the Victoria & Albert Museum and the National Gallery in London. He has shown his work in numerous venues since the early 1950’s and has had solo exhibitions at the Kenny Gallery and the James Gallery, Dublin, every two years. Exhibitions
He has exhibited with the Cork Arts Society, the Solomon Gallery, Dublin, the Oriel Gallery, Dublin and the Metropolis International Gallery d’Art, Geneva. He has also shown at the Belgrave Galllery, London and the Wren Gallery, Oxford. He has also regularly exhibited at the RWA. He sees his main influences as being English Romantic Landscape Painting from William Blake to the present day. Paul Nash, Graham Sutherland and Ivon Hitchens whom he met, are noted as key influences. Now, he is one of Ireland’s most desirable artists.
