An Oak Longcase Timepiece by Durward of Edinburgh

Description



The oak case of mellow colour stands at 7ft. 3.5ins.(2.22m.) on a plain base with bracket feet.
The hood with swan neck pediment and three water gilded urn finials , has reeded columns with brass bases and capitals and the door has carved fruitwood blind frets to the four corners.
The long trunk door with shaped top has a brass escutcheon and hinges .
The circular silvered dial, with Roman hour chapters and Arabic five minute numerals , has matching blued steel serpentine hands and a seconds subsidiary dial . The dial is signed" Jos. Durward Edinburgh"
The eight day three pillar movement has narrow plates with pedestal shaped bases.
