A Mahogany Longcase Clock by Withers of Bristol

Description



The mahogany case stands at 7ft. 1ins.(2.16m.) The arched hood with three finials has reeded columns with brass bases and capitals and the door has a typical west country wavy edge to its inner edge.
The small trunk door with panels above and below , is flanked by chamfered front corners, all with stringing and crossbanding. The flame veneers are particularly good.
The arched white dial, has Roman hour chapters , matching blued steel hands , seconds subsidiary dial and a date aperture. There is a painting in the arch of a cottage scene and various views of the same to the corners. The dial is signed Withers, Bristol.
The eight day movement is rack striking on a bell.
