A Directoire Mantel Clock - Liesse A Paris

Description

The ormolu case consists of a flute playing shepherd boy leaning on the clock drum which in turn is supported on a rock base with fountains from behind which can be seen a bull with upturned head. To the left there is an oak tree with a patinated sheep to its base. A matching dog is seated at the right hand side , gazing up at his master. The stepped rectangular base has a frieze with two arcs showing the signs of the zodiac flanking a central motif of two dragons.
The white enamel dial , signed "Liesse, Rue Montesquien à Paris ", with Roman hour chapters and Arabic fifteen minute markers, has chased and pierced fleur de lys hands.
The eight day movement with flat bottomed plates has a countwheel and strikes the hour and half hours on a bell.
