A very nice hunting flask and sandwich box in a leather saddle case retailed by Swain-Brigg. The Electro-plated sandwich box has a fall-down back, a ring handle and is marked Swain & Brigg, London. Swain-Brigg-London is also embossed in gilt on the leather case. The case is with saddle straps and the leather lid closes with an eye over a stud fastening. The flask has a silver plated lid with a bayonet fitting and carries the mark of James Dixon & Sons. On one side of the bottle neck can be found JD & S, made in England, whilst on the other side is a trumpet. The JD & S is the mark of James Dixon & Sons and the "Trumpet and Banner" mark identifies without doubt it is a Dixon's product. The use of the trumpet is to prevent mistakes with the marks "JD & S" used by another Sheffield manufacturer, James Deakin & Sons. James Dixon & Sons was established in 1806 in Sheffield by James Dixon in partnership with a Mr. Smith.
