Description
Ref: 24277
A very stylish periscope made by Carl Zeiss and marked “RWDF 10 x 50, 1240-12-133-3624, CARL ZEISS 17316”. The periscope is mounted on a wooden tripod which is also probably made by Carl Zeiss. The whole apparatus is stripped of paint and is polished, giving it a sculptural look. The periscope has a metal finish with brass fittings, an adjustable sun visor on top and comes with a green transit box. The Carl Zeiss optics on this piece of ex-military hardware are crystal clear and can be fully adjusted to see objects in the sky or at ground level. There are built in mini spirit levels to help in the set up of the periscope and when in use there is a quick release lever to allowing turning a full 360° in one swift move.
This type of equipment was extensively in use during the Cold War, particularly on the Berlin Wall.
Measurements below are without tripod.
