Spanish, circa 1520, carved in Alabaster. Mary Magdelene is depicted holding her jar of ointments used for the cleansing of Christ's wounds. It is said that she lived as a hermit in Sainte Baume, in Southern France, for 30 years and seven times a day she was transported to Heaven by angels. From the 13th century to the present day the cave in which she lived became a Christian pilgrimage site.
