GEORGE HOWSE NWS (1830-1860) Medium / MaterialWatercolour Dimensions40.00inch wide 30.00inch high (101.60 cm wide 76.20 cm high) DescriptionThis magnificent large watercolour shows numerous river craft moored at the quayside along with the rafts of wood which were a feature on the River Main at this period. In the distance is the cupola of the Cathedral which was destroyed by fire in the 1860's. ProvenanceAn old label on the back reads: "This picture belonged to my great grandparents, Benjamin and Sophia Charlotte Cooke. It was at Heath House, Blackheath from 1855 to 1865, then at No 21 Adelaide Crescent,Hove from 1865 to 1871. When Sophia died in1873 it was valued for probate at £40. The pictures were distributed amongst her daughters. This was probably the most valuable in the house." ExhibitionsExhibited at the Royal Academy in 1847. Current ConditionExcellent.
