Description

A superb Japanese lacquer box for writing paper from the Meiji period. The wooden box is lacquered in takamaki-e, hiramaki-e, and gold, the top and sides with a variety of flowers and butterflys, the interior of the lid decorated with a house by a river, together with trees and birds, the inner removable tray also decorated with flowers.
