Bronze Applique with Actor's Mask

Roman Empire, c. 2nd Century AD

Elliptical shaped bronze applique; a profiled actor's mask in raised relief with prominent, bordering on grotesque features including inlaid eye, bulbous nose, full lips, thick beard, knob-like protrusion and ivy to helmet-like hat, at centre.

An unusual item with an attractive light green patina over whole.

Current Condition

In excellent condition, with minor damage to lower peripheral border and only part of tang remaining on reverse. Mounted on custom made stand, taking height to 10cm.
