EDOUARD LEON CORTES (1882-1969)

18.00inch wide   13.00inch high (45.72 cm wide  33.02 cm high)

Description

Cortes spent most of his life in the small towen of Lagny, which is about 20 miles east of Paris . He devoted his career to painting the gloriously colourful scenes of Paris during the Belle Epoque, capturing the famous monuments in many different lights, weathers and viewpoints.

Lively figures are depicted going about their business and dramatic lines of perspective lead our eye down the boulevard. His paintings often portray the scene as the light fades towards the end of the afternoon and the pavement has a sheen to it suggesting a recent shower. The vitality and atmosphere of a moment are captured with great realism.
