Description
Extremely rare set of four English Oak Panels, circa 1500. They are all decorated with stylised Trees of Life under an arch with Gothic cusping. They each have six flowers, probably roses, on the edge of each branch, with a top flower which could possibly be a Hop blossom. The lower section with a lightly carved X has light scratch decoration which could depict the earth in which the trees are growing.
Their colour is excellent and has not been “manufactured”.
They have been adapted in Victorian times to fit another piece of furniture, and have been cut to make rebates and tongue grooves on their sides.
