| Description | Gillett worked in pen and ink, oil, watercolour and pastel and his subjects where often taken from sporting and rural life. This poignant pastel of Norfolk Volunteer soldiers on parade is unusual in Gillett’s oeuvre. It was executed sometime around Gillett’s return to Norfolk in 1916 and shows the collected countrymen, both old-timers and nervous boys, in training for possible active service in the Great War. |
