ARTIST’S BIOGRAPHY
Darrell Mitchell
1968- English
Darrell Mitchell, born in Chertsey, Surrey in 1968. His interest and love of art blossomed from an early age, nurtured by his fathers Oil Painting Conservation and Restoration business. Through this business Darrell was exposed to a broad repertoire of artistic talent, which later assisted in the development of his own diverse style.
Darrell’s dream was to become a professional Footballer. He played for both Fulham and Chelsea Youth Teams. Due to back injuries sustained whilst playing Football, his dream did not come to fruition. During this period Darrell’s unwavering desire to succeed, manifested itself in his fathers business. Joining Robert Mitchell Oil Painting Conservation in 1987, he gained a formal artist grounding at the Strodes Art College, Egham. These formative years provided Darrell with the opportunity to continue his training with prominent artists such as John Berry, Peter Power and Denby Sweeting who became an inspiration and a role model.
In 1990, Darrell emigrated to Australia where he remained for a period of 10 years. His noteworthy achievements whilst in Australia included setting up his own Studio Gallery in the Bohemian quarter of Brisbane. The Studio Gallery became a central meeting place for local talent, renowned Australian artist and collectors alike. Darrell realised the potential of the Australian market place and expanded the business to include Gilding, Framing, French Polishing and Antique dealing. Predominantly self taught these skills and attributes saw The Studio prosper and grow.
Returning to England in December 1999, Darrell rejoined the family business where he is now a valued partner. He continues to strive for excellence in the Conservation field and that of his true passion, painting. The Global capacity of the business has afforded Darrell with the benefit of working with an unsurpassed array of International art covering all periods and styles. . Since his return to England Darrell has painted views all along the River Thames from Hampton Court to Chertsey including the Chertsey Regatta along with Virginia Water Lake, Cornwall and Venice.
Darrell’s work can be regarded as insightful and unspoilt by the limitations of any one particular style or period. His work draws on his training and personal experience both in the UK and Australia, often combining to formulate a unique composition. The technical style executed by Darrell leaves the lasting impression of a true painter, by uniting powerful colours, light and dimension. His studies are broad sweeping ranging from landscapes, seascapes, nudes and still lives.
