Description

Kangxi famille verte moulded famille verte lidded tankard. Excellent rare item based on a european shape c1690. The piece has a moulded body of ruyi headed breaking waves around the shoulder and from there to the top a stripey sea ( narrow curving fluting.) This pattern is found at the bottom of robes usually embroidered in gilt. Around the base of the tankard it is moulded with grasses and lappets
The handle has a small ruyi mushroom shape to the bottom of it.
Painted with a delicate intricacy of birds, insects, flowering trees and rock work in overglaze famille verte enamels.
When the piece reached europe usually silver work or metal was added to the rim and led to give it a hinge rather like the German Steins

Current Condition

Perfect except for a very small chip to the ruyi head at the base of the handle. Small hint of a firing flaw to the area around the top of the handle where the handle was put on
