Bronze Statuette of Mercury

Roman Empire, c. 2nd – 3rd Century AD

Charming bronze statuette of a naked Mercury advancing; atypically wearing winged hat (Petasos) and cloak draped over left shoulder, knotted at the right; holds a money purse in left hand; integral groundline beneath feet.

An excellent composition with very finely executed detailing and a lovely variegated amber and green patina.
