Description
A portable brass refracting telescope on a conical pillar and tripod stand with an object glass of 3 inches apeture, with a focal length of 46 inches, fully extended the telescope is 48 inches in length. There is a small refracting sighting telescope on top of the main barrel with a cross wire at the object glass end. Engraved on the eye end of the telescope an inscription reads Ross, London, No 43155.
The stand is detachable and can be attached to the side of the telescope. The inclination movement, and rotary movement are from the base of the pillar, and there are two wooden handled jointed rods for fine adjustment of inclination and rotary movements. The handle on the side of the tube is for extending the telescope.
The telescope comes complete with its original dark stained pine carrying case for transport and storage. Fitted within the box are the following accessories, one eyepiece, four coloured shades, an extension shade for the object glass, a sighting telescope, a brass screw top box, one cap for the telescope, and a 90 degree prism and lens.

Also in the case is a receipt to Mr. Johnstone from the Manchester Astronomical Society for Membership in 1907 for 5 shillings, a letter to Mr Johnstone, and a note saying that the telescope was lent to Dr & Mrs Singer, London, on the 31st October 1931.
