Antique Serapi

( c. 1860) Persia

Dimensions

351.00cm wide   427.00cm high (138.19 inches wide  168.11 inches high)

Description

A magnificent early fine Serapi carpet with exquisite soft colours in excellent condition. This Serapi draws tribal influences from Bakshaish, with tribal leaves and floral motifs. Serapi carpets are more intricate tribal weavings of the Heriz region handwoven by Azerbaijan Turkish inhabitants close to the city of Heriz in north west Persia. They are famous among collectors for their softer vegetable dyes woven with a geometric pattern.
