Medium / MaterialStained Beech with a cane seat Dimensions17.50inch wide 33.25inch high 17.00inch deep (44.45 cm wide 84.45 cm high 43.18 cm deep) DescriptionThe top of the back of this stained beech campaign chair has a very fine white metal Marquis's Coronet indicating that the chair belonged to someone of title. It is well made and strong when set up. The legs have extremely large brass screws that would appear substantial even on a dining table. They are stamped from one to four and have hard rubber tips which would be practical in protecting the legs from a damp surface. The back fits to the chair by means of three fixed screws with dome heads that are received by brass fittings on the seat. The whole back then slides along to fix into position. It is possible that this chair was bespoke made and certainly it is a design that we have not seen before. The fact that it has its own case also indicates that it was made as a single chair as opposed to part of a set. The case has dividers to separate all the pieces and also contains the original green swab cushion. Given the date of the chair it is possible that it was made for a specific event such as a safari or a state visit to India. Early 20th century. Price
