Literature

Sotho warriors were armed with a long spear, a knobkerrie and a battle axe with a crescent shaped blade with the two points of the crescent clipped.
However, axes such as this one made of rhinoceros horn were not used as weapons, but would be carried onto the battlefield by commanders and used as insignia of military rank.
