Description

The rectangular backs with finials and re-upholstered in an 19th century, woven damask with brass flowerhead studs, above flat, open arms. The rectangular stuff-over close-nailed seat similarly upholstered. Standing on rectangular legs joined by a shaped front stretcher, and side stretchers and straight back stretcher. Original metalwork. Original colour and patina. Second half of the 17th century.

This rare pair of Spanish armchairs have a very pleasing simple form. The undecorated surfaces display their rich, lustrous, colour and patina to full advantage. They are comfortable and usable and look very striking either side of a Spanish desk/writing table.
