Description
A rare late Georgian mahogany bow fronted stick barometer with its original glazed thermometer by this fine Bristol maker.
The flat to the wall case with bowed stepped pediment is veneered with flame mahogany and ebony stringing and inlay. The turned ebonised urn cistern cover is flanked by chamfered corners with inlaid ebony faux fluting.
The finely proportioned register plate is signed above the states of the weather, which are graduated from 27-31 inches.
Along the trunk a silvered brass mercury thermometer reads from 0 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. It is set within a framed moulded box behind a bowed glass.
