Description

A very finely worked late 18th century pictorial sampler, in excellent condition, worked by Sarah Price in 1783, with a bucolic scene as the central image, with a farmhouse with smoke curling from the chimney, a duck-filled pond with one man fishing and another crossing a bridge, a flock of birds above trees and a field with a grazing horse; bands of alphabets and numbers are at the top, and a border of roses runs around the outside edge.

The verse reads:

The Lord of Glory reigns, he reigns on high,
His Robes of state are Strength and Majesty,
The Wide Creation rose at his Command,
Built by his Word, and 'stablishd by his Hand.
Long stood his Throne e're he began Creation,
And his own Godhead is the firm Foundation.
